Polisario Front renews call on Security Council to include human rights monitoring in MINURSO's mandate


The Polisario Front has renewed the call on UN Security Council to include human rights monitoring and protection within the mandate of UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), noting no progress in the application of the Security Council resolution in April 2011 due to the intransigence of Morocco.

“Necessary measures should be taken for a permanent and serious follow up of the human rights situation in occupied territories through extending the MINURSO mandate to respond to this task, which became a necessity” said statement sanctioning a meeting of the Council of Ministers held today under chairmanship of President of Republic Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.

The Polisario Front expressed hope that the UN Security Council debate on Western, in the coming days, will be is an opportunity to push negotiations path to reach last and fair solution to the conflict allows the Saharawi people to freely decide their future.

It called on the international community to assume fully responsible with regard to the gross human rights violations taking place in occupied Western Sahara, calling for the release of all Saharawi political prisoners. (SPS)
